My Journey Part 2

So where did I leave off? Oh yea...I was zebra bald (hair on the left, shirt hair in the middle, hair on the right), and in pain.
So let's fast forward 2 more years. By then have done a lil bit of research and had a general idea of what I had. I THOUGHT it was psoriasis. I was flaky in my eyebrows, along my hair line, at the crown of my head and burning spots behind both ears. So I am in a thrift shop believe it or not when I run cross TGel. It read treats dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis.
WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO! I was so so happy! So I went home and washed my hair immediately......it was dry as hell but not Sahara dry. So I just put some conditioner in my hair after shampooing. So after using TGel I noticed my flakes were gone. I just KNEW I had found the answer. Sadly that was NOT THE answer for me. Doesn't mean it won't work for YOU but if you are a black woman reading my journey trying to figure out how to beat this....keep reading baby. If you are of the Caucasian persuasion then odds are your journey stops here. But feel free to keep reading. More links to products will be coming up :)
So, I go to my hair dresser again just KNOWING I'm not going to hear the same words I have heard for the last 2 years....I was STILL hearing them. She told me it's a little thicker...but it's not growing in length...UGH!!!!!!
So BACK to the damn dermatologist I go. Who tells me that I do not have psoriasis but what I DO have is called seborrheic dermatitis......wth is THAT!? I asked her. I can tell you this.....not a damn thing that came out of her mouth next was accurate for a woman of color so I won't bother you with those details.

My Journey Comes to an End

Hello again! I know you are so ready for me to tell you what I did and this last post is it. Alright here we go.
So now I know exactly what I have I see my T Gel was helping but not fully. So I start researching what I have and found nothing that could help me.....then I decided to do research specifically on black hair.
What I read about seborrheic dermatitis is that basically our scalp produces more natural oils, also called sebum then we are naturally supposed to. So I felt like I was getting some where reading that. Took me FOREVER to find that one detail....mainly cause I didn't look up specifically for the scalp.
Anyway, so I read and read and read and read. I read that if you put natural oils on your head like olive oil or coconut oil the antioxidants will help. So I started putting coconut oil on my scalp.....DID NOT HELP AT ALL!!!!
So I read a bunch of articles that said different things then one day....I read words that made so much sense I felt dumb as hell. Now the words I am about to use are NOT the words I read...but I'M writing this so imma write it how I talk...
Let me clear my throat...ahem, ahem testing 1, 2, 3
Ok
STOP OILING YOUR DAMN SCALP!!!!!
We have read that our scalp produces TOO MUCH oil...and yet here we are oiling our scalp still. Now I get it. It's what you were taught growing up. It's part of how we kept our hair healthy and kept DANDRUFF away. So we try every single product we can to help with our condition.....but still oiled our scalp after.
So stop oiling your scalp.....TRUST ME you will be fine. I have stopped using TGel and have started using something my dermatologist actually did recommend (so there was ONE thing that came outta her mouth that was worth it). She said to use the Clinical Strength Head and Shoulders. It says it treats seborrheic dermatitis in bold white letters right on the bottle. You can use ANY conditioner you like but I prefer to use the Green Apple Scented Hair and Scalp Conditioner also by Head and Shoulders. That way my condition gets a double dose and I smell oh so good.
So the question you may still have is....HOW do I keep my hair healthy without oiling your scalp. Well....I moisturize JUST my hair. I use coconut oil. Coconut oil is cheap, natural, and has a million uses. I use 100% Pure LouAna Coconut Oil. Coconut oil stays solid and will actually melt as soon as it touches your hand.
What I do is I get a bit of it in the palm of my hand and them rub my palms together. I have short hair (for now) so I just run my hand through my hair. Not touching my scalp. I brush it through and then VOILA!!!
I have not had a single flare up. A single FLAKE...no pain...nothing. I wash my hair once or twice a week. Once you feel yourself itch a lil like you used to its time for a wash with the special shampoo. NOT time to oil your scalp ok? Don't forget!

After 8 years of not knowing what was wrong. 8 years of feeling ugly. No more! Never feel ugly always know you are beautiful.
One last thing. When you go to oil just your hair PLEASE use your hands and don't pour it on or use a bottle or anything. With your hands you can control where the oil goes (or whatever moisturizer you prefer. Coconut oil dries out some folks hair).
You may be wondering how can you oil your hair without getting it on your scalp. You can't expect NONE of it to get on your scalp cause your hair IS on your head right? So don't worry. Being as you are not putting it DIRECTLY on the scalp completely covering it you are fine. You are letting your natural oils oil your head for you.
I hope that my journey will help you with yours. Any questions feel free to ask in the comments.
Odds are some where in my posts something may not make sense cause I got ahead of myself....correct me folks. I'm cool with that 😎
I thank you so much for reading my crazy story.
🍀 Good Luck with yours!! 🍀

Ps it's been 3 days since I last washed my hair.....no dandruff....it's so damn weird lol everything is bass ackwards.

We've got this 😉

My journey Part 1

Where do I begin? Oh how about when I went to bed with hair to my shoulders and woke up with the middle of my head almost showing. I had NO idea what was going on! As a black woman the FIRST thing I thought was "THAT'S what I get for not having a silk pillow case" Man oh Man that was NOT the case.

So I ask a friend of mine to just cut my hair real short to match that short ass strip down the middle of my head.....she was of no help. So I just dealt with it and eventually my hair grew back. This was in 2009.

Fast forward about 4 years to 2013. I am still battling this issue. My hair still grows but I now have this very painful spot on the top of my head. It's bumpy and it's itchy and I hated it. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what it was. You al ready know if you Google ANYTHING about your body some how they link it to the worst thing.

So as a black woman I did what I had always done when my hair was dry and itchy.....I oiled my scalp. It NEVER worked and I didn't know why. So literally after about an hour I started BURNING!!! So I ran to the shower and washed my hair.....oh MAN did that feel good. Burning GONE!!

So for a couple years this is just what I did. It's 2015 and my hair has STOPPED growing. My hair stylist says she can see my scalp. I am freaking out! She suggests I go to a dermatologist. So I head on over thinking YAY!! Finally some help.

They sent me home with ketoconazole in shampoo form AND a foam called Extina. I tried the shampoo.....HELL NO! Never again. My head was like the Sahara desert. So I stopped using that and used the foam religiously.

Went back to my hair dresser....no change had been made length wise to my hair...I was devastated.
